1. Faith in Allah
The first pillar of faith is faith in Allah. This means that we wholeheartedly believe that Allah is the only God who deserves to be worshipped, the Creator, the Sustainer, and that He has no partners.
The proof is found in the Qur’an:
“Allah, there is no God (worthy of worship) except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of (His creatures).” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 255)
Faith in Allah also includes believing in His glorious names and attributes. By understanding this, our hearts will be more at peace because we realize that all matters are in His power.
2. Belief in the Angels of Allah
The second pillar of faith in Islam and its evidence is belief in angels. Angels are creatures of Allah created from light and always obedient to Him.
Allah says:
“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, as have the believers. All of them believe in Allah, His angels…” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 285)
Safarfriendly friends, we must believe in the existence of angels such as Jibril, Mikail, Israfil, and others, even though we cannot see them. This faith trains us to believe in the unseen things that Allah and His Messenger have told us about.
3. Faith in the Books of Allah
Allah revealed books as guidance for mankind. These books include the Torah, the Zabur, the Gospel, and the Qur’an.
The proof is still in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 285, which mentions the obligation to believe in His books.
As Muslims, we believe that the Qur’an is the final and perfecting book of the previous books. Reading and practicing the Qur’an is a tangible form of faith in the books of Allah.
4. Faith in the Messengers of Allah
Messengers are chosen people who are sent to convey revelation. We must believe in all messengers without distinction.
Allah says:
“And indeed, We have sent messengers to every nation…” (QS. An-Nahl: 36)
There are many messengers, but we are required to know 25 prophets and messengers. The last prophet is Prophet Muhammad, who brought the message of Islam to all of humanity until the end of time.
5. Belief in the Last Day
The fifth pillar of faith in Islam and its evidence is belief in the Last Day. The Last Day is the day of resurrection, reckoning, and retribution for all human deeds.
Allah says:
“And indeed, the Hour is coming, there is no doubt about it…” (QS. Al-Hajj: 7)
Belief in the Last Day makes us more careful in our actions. We are aware that we will be held accountable for every deed, no matter how small.
6. Belief in Qada and Qadar
The last pillar of faith is belief in destiny, both good and bad. This means that we believe that everything happens according to Allah’s will and decree.
The Messenger of Allah said:
“And you believe in destiny, both good and bad.” (HR. Muslim)
Belief in destiny does not mean giving up without trying. On the contrary, we continue to try our best, then leave the results to Allah. That way, our hearts will be more at ease when facing trials and successes.
